SPONSORED BY:

SPONSORED BY:

1. Ang lahat ng sangay ng hotel ay dapat mag-post ng mga abiso sa lahat ng kanilang reception/desk area, na nagsasaad na ang mga senior citizen at persons with disability (PWDs) ay may karapatan sa 12 percent VAT exemption at 20 percent senior/PWD discounts, kung ang mga promo rates ay hindi pinahihintulutan ng DTI;

2. Dapat payuhan ng hotel ang Philippine Hotel Owners Association tungkol sa mga benepisyong ito na ipinag-uutos ng batas at kung ano ang nakasaad sa ilalim ng batas;

SPONSORED BY:
3. Ang hotel ay dapat mag-donate ng halagang P250,000 sa anumang organisasyon ng mga senior citizen upang bahagyang maibsan ang mga pinsalang dulot ng hotel sa ibang mga senior citizen “who the hotel wittingly or unwittingly denied their discounts on a promo not approved by the DTI. ”

Taxpayer Angel Locsin writes open letter after TV Plus shutdown: "Ang daming time pag-initan ang ABS..."

Taxpayer Angel Locsin writes open letter after TV Plus shutdown: "Ang daming time pag-initan ang ABS..."

To whom it may concern."

Saad ng Iba ‘Yan host, "Make sure you have plans for the many workers who lost their income.

Kabilang dito sina Sharon Cuneta, Regine Velasquez, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Liza Soberano, Kim Chiu, Vice Ganda, Anne Curtis, at iba pang news personalities.

Post ni Jay Sonza nitong Hunyo 29, Lunes: "The TVplus, KBO & Sky Direct gadget buyers can bond together & file a class suit jointly and severally versus abs-cbn broadcasting corporation and amcarra broadcasting company, and its officers and owners.

A Very Valid claim.

"The weeds and the wheat..."

"Top priority -- protect the President.

NOEL FERRER

I was on the line with my friend Zsa Zsa Padilla who just finished her first taping day ulit sa lock in arrangement nila sa Love Thy Woman.

"Galing ako sa first taping day ko after lockdown.

Wait and see pa sila kung matutuloy ang lock in nila this weekend.

This is really in solidarity with the network and the media in general.

Nakakalungkot talaga!

GORGY RULA

NTC stops ABS-CBN’s TVPlus shows, Sky Direct

NTC stops ABS-CBN’s TVPlus shows, Sky Direct

MANILA, Philippines — The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has ordered ABS-CBN Corp. to stop airing shows on TVPlus in Metro Manila and its subsidiary SkyCable Corp. to cease the operation of its direct-to-home satellite service.

The NTC, which on May 5 shut down ABS-CBN following the expiration of the network’s franchise, yesterday issued two new cease and desist orders (CDOs) against the network and its pay television and broadband arm.?First, the NTC ordered ABS-CBN’s SkyCable to cease and desist operating its direct broadcast satellite service.

The order only covers SKYdirect, which is the direct-to-home satellite service of SkyCable.

ABS-CBN said it has 1.5 million Skydirect subscribers to date.

According to the NTC, SkyCable no longer has valid and subsisting congressional franchise to install, operate and maintain a direct broadcast satellite service following the expiration of the company’s legislative franchise on May 4.

SkyCable is directed to show cause in writing within 10 days from receipt of the order on why the radio frequencies assigned to it should not be recalled for lack of necessary congressional franchise as required by law.
“Failure to file an answer within the period herein granted shall be considered the respondents’ waiver of its right to be heard, and the commission shall render judgment as the law and evidence may warrant,” the NTC said.

SkyCable is also ordered by the NTC to refund to all its subscribers unconsumed prepaid loads, deposits on subscriber equipment and devices, deposit or advance payment in monthly charges for postpaid subscribers and charges collected from new applicants.

Meanwhile, the NTC also ordered ABS-CBN to cease and desist from operating digital TV transmission in Metro Manila using Channel 43.

This refers to the ABS-CBN-owned channels CineMo!, Yey!, DZMM TeleRadyo and KBO, which are currently airing on TVPlus.

“In an order dated May 14, 2019, the commission granted respondent ABS-CBN authority to convert its analog TV service in Metro Manila (Channel 2) to digital terrestrial television (DTT) using Channel 43,” the NTC said.

“This authority granted to respondent ABS-CBN is included in the list of radio and TV stations directed to cease and desist from operating in an order dated May 5, 2020.

Hence, order dated May 5, 2020 necessarily includes DTT transmission in Metro Manila using Channel 43, and ABS-CBN Corp. should immediately cease and desist from operating Channel 43,” the regulator added.
TVPlus was launched by ABS-CBN in 2015 as part of the government’s mandate to shut down analog broadcast and shift to digital.

As of end-November, ABS-CBN has sold 8.9 million TVPlus boxes.

NTC officials were not answering calls for further clarifications on the order.

ABS-CBN and SkyCable said they would comply with the NTC orders.

“While Channel 43 is not mentioned in NTC’s cease and desist order of May 5, 2020 and it is ABS-CBN’s informed understanding that Channel 43 is not included in the CDO, digital TV transmission in Metro Manila using Channel 43 will cease tonight (June 30), consistent with the intent of the alias CDO,” ABS-CBN said in a statement.

It said 4.4 million home will be affected with the shutdown of Channel 43.

Aside from stopping the operations of its direct broadcast satellite service, SkyCable said it would also refund all unconsumed prepaid loads and advance postpaid payments to subscribers.

SkyCable, however, emphasized that SKYdirect’s 1.5 million subscribers nationwide, including those in remote areas that do not receive television signals, would be deprived of access to the channels that it carries that bring them news, information, education and entertainment.
“In the spirit of fairness, we continue to appeal to the NTC to extend the same privilege given in the past to other companies whose franchises have expired but are currently pending in Congress to continue its operations until a resolution is passed,” SkyCable said.

“We assure our subscribers that we will exhaust all legal remedies to resume our services,” it said.

ABS-CBN said it is hoping that its pending petition with the Supreme Court questioning the NTC’s cease and desist order would be resolved soon in its favor so that it can resume broadcasting on both analog and digital platforms.

Scolded
Meanwhile, lawmakers admonished NTC Commissioner Gamaliel Cordoba for allowing ABS-CBN to resume operations even as its franchise expired on May 4.

“We have a ripe case for the ombudsman here. In this instance, I am endorsing a graft case against the NTC chief for allowing and tolerating ABS-CBN to operate for eight weeks even with an expired franchise,” House Deputy Majority Leader Jesus Crispin Remulla said.

This developed after Cordoba admitted that the TV giant’s use of Channel 43 is covered by the NTC’s cease and desist order.

“Yes, the TV airing is a violation of our CDO,” Cordoba said, adding the NTC did not act right away and had to consult the Office of the Solicitor General as it might affect the case filed before the Supreme Court.

Rep. Mike Defensor, chairman of the House public accounts committee, said Cordoba’s action constituted “usurpation of our power to grant a legislative franchise” and an “infringement or encroachment of the powers of Congress” to grant franchises to broadcasting stations.

But Marcoleta, to whom Cordoba gave a briefing paper about the issue June 10, was harsh.

“He (Cordoba) should resign because he’s not doing his job. It has been 19 days. It’s as if he has been insulting our intelligence here. There was no TRO from SC. So why do you have to issue an alias CDO?” Marcoleta said.

ABS-CBN president and CEO Carlo Katigbak said the CDO did not cover Channel 43, which is operated by Amcara Broadcasting network.

The Lopezes used to own 49 percent of Amcara stocks – from 1996 to 2019 – wherein they had a “block-timer arrangement.”

Katigbak said that in the past, the NTC and Congress permitted other broadcasting companies with expired congressional franchises to continue airing until such time that the franchise renewal application is approved or denied.

“We ask permission that the same privilege be accorded to ABS-CBN in the spirit of fairness,” Katigbak said.

Despite Cordoba’s insistence, Katigbak said Channel 43 was “not covered by the CDO.”

A lawyer for the network, along with Katigbak, confirmed that Amcara – which they now claim to have shares of 10 percent from ABS-CBN – was once owned by the Lopezes and whose office address is similar to that of the network in Quezon City.

“No amount of palusot (excuse) will be enough to allow this arrangement. They don’t have a right to broadcast, period. This block time arrangement is just a poor excuse,” Remulla told the panel headed by Reps. Franz Alvarez and Jonathan Sy-Alvarado.

Palace: Let Congress decide on proposal to rename NAIA

Palace: Let Congress decide on proposal to rename NAIA

Lawmakers will have to decide whether to pass the proposal to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas (PPP), Malacañang said Monday.

“Iniiwan po namin iyan sa Kongreso dahil kinakailangan po ng batas kung kinakailangang baguhin ang pangalan ng NAIA,” presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.

Roque made the statement amid criticism over House Bill 7031, which was filed by President Rodrigo Duterte’s son, Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte, ACT-CIS party-list Representative Eric Yap and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.

Vice President Leni Robredo said it was inappropriate to push for the name change amid the COVID-19 pandemic while Senator Leila De Lima dismissed the proposal as “devoid of any salutary objective” and a product of “politics and and stupidity.”

Robredo and De Lima belong to the Liberal Party, which counts Aquino as one of its former leaders.

In filing their proposed measure, the younger Duterte stressed the need for a more representative branding for the country's international gateway.
Velasco said that their proposal seeks to reposition the Philippines as a choice destination for tourists, especially when the country reopens its borders for travelers once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

Yap added that they want returning Filipinos or balikbayans and foreign tourists alike to see the name of the country right away once their flights land at the airport, making them feel at home.

The original name of the airport was Manila International Airport, but in 1987 it was renamed NAIA through Republic Act 6639, in honor of Aquino who was assassinated at this airport on August 21,1983 after a three-year exile in the United States.

His death sparked various protests and catapulted his wife, Corazon, to the presidency in February 1986 following the ouster of then President Ferdinand Marcos in a bloodless People Power revolution.

Celebrities, netizens reacts to proposed name change of NAIA

Celebrities, netizens reacts to proposed name change of NAIA

Filipinos were caught by surprise on June 25 after a bill to rename the NAIA (Ninoy Aquino International Airport) was filed at the House of Representatives.

The move was made by three  congressmen, Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco, ACT-CIS Representative Eric Yap, and presidential son and Davao City 1st District Representative Paolo Duterte.
The three stated that since the NAIA is the center of international gateway it is identified as belonging to the Philippines, thus it should be renamed to ‘Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas.’
They said, “With the proposed name, the airport will easily be identified as the international doorway of the country, in view of it being in Filipino language and branding it as the international airport of the Philippines,”

However, the bill was criticized by many and even celebrities voiced out their sentiments on the untimely filing of such a bill knowing that the country is still suffering from the pandemic.
K Brosas slammed the government as she questioned their priorities.

Alessandra de Rossi made a sarcastic comment that this might help resolve the pandemic crisis and hunger.

Edwin Lacierda also ironically questioned what Ninoy Aquino has done to the pandemic to cause the removal of his name, knowing that it was tagged as a symbol for being known as an opposition leader.
Dr. Gia Sison angrily reminded the government that the country is still facing the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jasmine Curtis, Erwan Heussaff, Kakie Pangilinan, and others also expressed their contradictions regarding the bill.
A netizen even pointed out that changing airport names involves expenses, and knowingly president Rodrigo Duterte had said that the budget for the pandemic is tight but maybe a budget was set aside for this, he jokingly posted.
Another netizen also thinks that it should be said in English NAP (National Airport of the Philippines) or better yet ‘No Action Plan.’

To know which new name is more suitable to netizens the Lionheartv team made a poll on whether PAPAPI (Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas) or PIA (Philippine International Airport) would be a better replacement.

And the results showed that more are in favor of naming the airport PIA rather than the proposed PAPAPI by congress.

But still, the majority criticized the bill for its untimely proposal since the country is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and also dropping the name of Sen. Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. is like taking away a symbolic inspiration that would remind Filipinos about the democratic movement and it as well violates a sense of history.

‘Something is very wrong’ says Sotto as Philippines has fastest rise of COVID cases in region

‘Something is very wrong’ says Sotto as Philippines has fastest rise of COVID cases in region

Lawmakers over the weekend called on the administration to step up its game as the Philippines was identified as the country with the fastest-growing number of new coronavirus cases in the Western Pacific region.

In separate statements released on Sunday, senators responded to data released by the World Health Organization (WHO) that showed the Philippines has the fastest growth in terms of COVID cases in the region.

"IATF must address the health protocols and programs being done by the DOH. Something is very wrong!" Senate President Vicente "Tito" Sotto III said.

The Philippines has recorded a total of 34,803 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease as of Saturday, June 27, 2020. This includes 9,431 recoveries and 1,236 deaths.
The same sentiment was mirrored by Senator Joel Villanueva, who said that there was a lack in the guidance of protocols being made to curb the spread of the disease.

"There was no clear guidance on surveillance and epidemiological monitoring. The current statistics are obviously consequences of these actions," he said in a separate statement.

"I really hope that during the past months we have upgraded our healthcare system to properly respond to this pandemic," added Villanueva.

The statement comes three months after Metro Manila and other key high-risk areas were placed under strict quarantine rules, restricting mobility and shutting the economy.

"We continue to encourage the public to stay at home, practice social distancing and only come out of their homes when necessary. We urge the government to put in place a methodologically sound epidemiological surveillance so that we can make informed decisions on our policy approach regarding COVID," said Villanueva.
In a separate statement, Senator Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go said the public must follow safety protocols to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease.

"Kung susunod po tayo sa mga patakaran at patuloy tayong magtutulungan para maiwasan ang pagkalat ng sakit, kung mas maisasaayos rin ang ating health facilities and capabilities — ito po ang mga tanging makakapagsabi kung kailan natin malalampasan at tuluyang matapos ang krisis na dulot ng COVID-19," he said in a separate statement.

Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health, pushed for the Balik Probinsya, Bagong Pag-asa Program (BP2) which was signed into law by President Rodrigo Duterte in May.

The program, which has since been suspended, aimed to decongest Metro Manila by encouraging the public to head back to provinces by providing benefits.

Several cases of Balik Probinsya beneficiaries were reported to have spread the coronavirus to areas in provinces such as in Baybay City in Leyte, which reported its first COVID-19 case from a member of the program.

Kapamilya stars take pay cuts in support of ABS-CBN

Kapamilya stars take pay cuts in support of ABS-CBN

"We are grateful to all our artists for their understanding and support for the network during these difficult times," saad sa statement ni Vidanes.

"We thank them for keeping the passion and commitment to bring joy and entertainment to our audience in the midst of the pandemic and the shutdown."
PAMI: TAKING A PAY CUT IS PAYING IT FORWARD

Sinabi ni Rufino: "In good times, ABS-CBN has been with us.

"In bad times, we want to be there for them."

Naiintindihan nila iyon.

"We want to cooperate. We want to help ABS-CBN in whatever way we can and taking a pay cut is one way to do that," ani Rufino.

Dagdag niya: "ABS-CBN has always been in the service of the Filipino. Kapag may calamities, iyong ABS-CBN ang nauunang tumulong.

"Now, it’s time for us to pay it forward."

SHOWS IN KAPAMILYA CHANNEL

Kabilang sa mga ito ang FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, It’s Showtime, Magandang Buhay, Love Thy Woman, A Soldier’s Heart, ASAP Natin ‘To, at The Voice Teens.

May dalawang bagong shows din sa Kapamilya Channel, ang Paano Kita Mapasasalamatan ni Judy Ann Santos at ang Iba ‘Yan ni Angel Locsin.

FRANCHISE RENEWAL BILLS STILL PENDING

De Lima: Move to rename NAIA is product of politics, stupidity

De Lima: Move to rename NAIA is product of politics, stupidity

Senator Leila de Lima on Saturday said "politics" and "stupidity" were to blame for moves from the House Representatives to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas (PPP).

De Lima issued the statement in response to House Bill 7031, which sought the name change and was filed by Presidential son Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte, ACT-CIS party-list Representative Eric Yap, and Marinduque Representative Lord Allan Velasco.

"Ano na namang kabalbalan ito? The lawmakers pushing for it has a distorted sense of nationalism, if at all," said De Lima, a staunch critic of the Duterte administration who was sent to jail over drug charges which she has repeatedly insisted were trumped up.
De Lima said the proposal was "devoid of any salutary objective.... [and] plain and simple politics. And stupidity."

In filing their proposed measure, Duterte stressed the need for a more representative branding for the country's international gateway.

He said that aside from bearing the country's name, their proposed name of Paliparang Pandaigdig ng Pilipinas is also in the Philippines' national language.

For his part, Velasco said that their proposal seeks to reposition the Philippines as a choice destination for tourists, especially when the country reopens its borders for travelers once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

Yap, meanwhile, said that they want returning Filipinos or balikbayans and foreign tourists alike to see the name of the country right away once their flights land at the airport, making them feel at home.

The original name of the airport was Manila International Airport, but in 1987, during the administration of the late President Corazon Aquino, it was renamed NAIA through Republic Act 6639, in honor of her husband and former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr.
Ninoy was assassinated at this airport on August 21, 1983 after a three-year exile in the United States.

His death sparked various protests leading up to the first EDSA People Power Revolution in 1986, during which the Marcos family fled the Philippines to Hawaii and Corazon was catapulted to the presidency.

De Lima belongs to the Liberal Party, the former ruling party from 2010 to 2016 that counts as among its members the Aquino couple's son and eventual President Benigno Aquino III, Duterte's predecessor.

Yap defends move to rename NAIA amid COVID-19 crisis: Hindi puwedeng tumigil ang mundo

Yap defends move to rename NAIA amid COVID-19 crisis: Hindi puwedeng tumigil ang mundo

Amid criticisms, ACT-CIS party-list Representative Eric Yap on Friday defended the proposal to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Pandaigdigang Paliparan ng Pilipinas.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Yap answered critics who questioned the timing of the filing of House Bill 7031, noting the COVID-19 pandemic the country is facing.

Lahat po ng isyu ng ating bayan ay natutugunan ng Kongreso,” said Yap, one of the authors of the measure.

Among those who slammed the proposal to rename NAIA amid the COVID-19 pandemic was Vice President Leni Robredo, who said it is "ill-timed," and Senator Francis Pangilinan, who said it should be the least of the government's concerns right now.

In defending the bill, Yap underscored the need to put the word "Philippines" or "Pilipinas" as this would promote the country to the international community.

NAIA is named after the late Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., a staunch critic of the Marcos administration who was shot dead upon his return to the Philippines from the US on August 21, 1983.
Ninoy was killed at the NAIA, then known as the Manila International Airport.

Yap said renaming NAIA is not a show of disrespect to Ninoy Aquino.

Also an author of the controversial bill is Deputy Speaker Paolo Duterte, son of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Lawmakers from the Makabayan bloc on Wednesday welcomed the decision of the Supreme Court to dismiss the quo warranto petition filed by the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) against embattled broadcast giant ABS-CBN.

"Bilang authors ng pagbibigay ng franchise sa ABS-CBN ay we welcome this decision of the Supreme Court," Bayan Muna party-list Representative Carlos Zarate said in a virtual press conference.
"Sana the Congress will take this as cue para pabilisin na din yung resolution ng pending application ng ABS-CBN sa kanilang franchise," he added.

According to Zarate, the ongoing House hearings on the ABS-CBN franchise issue have already been too long yet it has not shown any evidence to warrant the non-renewal of the network's franchise.

"Halos lahat ng issues ay binusisi na rito at nakita naman natin bilang authors na at this point walang kadahilanan para hindi ma-renew ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN," he said.

The Supreme Court had dismissed the OSG's quo warranto petition for mootness, as ABS-CBN's franchise already expired last May 4, but the case against ABS-CBN Convergence remains.

ACT Teachers party-list Representative France Castro said the OSG's "black magic" did not work on the Supreme Court's decision on the petition.

Like Zarate, Castro urged her fellow lawmakers to fast-track the hearings on the ABS-CBN franchise issue.

Bilang author at kasama sa mga sponsor, talagang isusulong natin," she said.

For her part, Gabriela Women's Party Representative Arlene Brosas said that the dismissal of the quo warranto petition only shows that the filing of the said petition "was just mere performance to further threaten ABS-CBN."

"Kung para sa Supreme Court ito ay moot and academic, para sa amin sa Gabriela Women's Party, [ito ay] senseless at absurd," she said.

Likewise, the dismissal of the petition is also a sign that lawmakers should already act on the bill seeking to grant ABS-CBN another 25-year franchise.
"We urge our fellow lawmakers to heed the call of the Filipino people to renew the ABS-CBN franchise," she said.

The next hearing on the ABS-CBN franchise issue is set on Monday next week.

Quarantine enforcers apprehend 40 drivers parking on bike lanes

Quarantine enforcers apprehend 40 drivers parking on bike lanes

At least 40 drivers of private vehicles have been apprehended for parking on bicycle lanes in Quezon City, the enforcement arm of the coronavirus task force disclosed on Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Police Lt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, commander of the Joint Task Force COVID Shield, said all the violators were issued with citation tickets for illegal parking by operatives of the Philippine National Police-Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG).

This comes a day after the task force issued a warning amid reports of private cars parking on bike lanes—effectively forcing bike riders onto other lanes—that surfaced on social media.

RELATED: Car drivers warned: Don't use, park on bike lanes
“This should serve as a lesson and a warning for the motorists to respect the spaces intended for bicycle riders,” said Eleazar.

"This operation will continue until we are able to institute discipline among the motorists that bicycle lanes are for bicycle riders and they have no business using them as parking or encroach in these lanes to overtake or to avoid traffic jams," he added.

Commuters have resorted to biking to their workplaces amid the lack of public transportation options in the first week of general community quarantine, prompting calls for protected bike lanes, particularly along the EDSA thoroughfare.

At a hearing that same day, Rep. Ron Salo (Kabayan Party-list) said: "Inefficiency in public transport became more glaring as general community quarantine was implemented...2.03 million workers are currently without transportation going to work, or P1 billion in economic losses a day."

According to a 2015 technical report by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, 88% of households in Metro Manila do not own cars and depend almost solely on public transportation, while the remaining 12% own at least one.

Police Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz, director of the PNP-HPG said his men first apprehended 21 drivers of private cars during a similar operation conducted on Tuesday afternoon along Quezon Avenue near the corner of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue in Quezon City.

“This morning, we deployed our personnel in the area along Quezon Avenue and apprehended 19 more drivers of private vehicles,” said Cruz.

"We will continue this operation not only to discipline motorists but also to protect our bicycle riders," he added.

‘Mockingjay’ Aling Marie leads masses against anti-terror bill at ‘Grand Mañanita'

‘Mockingjay’ Aling Marie leads masses against anti-terror bill at ‘Grand Mañanita'

Marie Dinglasan, more popularly known among Filipino netizens as "Aling Marie," is gaining attention again for bravely speaking out Friday morning against the anti-terrorism bill during the 122nd Independence Day "Grand Mañanita" at the University of the Philippines Diliman campus.
Aling Marie popularly coined the "kayumanggi ako" phrase in her viral call out against diehard Duterte supporters (DDS) earlier this week, reflecting the sentiments of an untold number of Filipinos who quickly rallied behind her.
Among the calls to action during Friday demonstrations is the junking of the controversial anti-terrorism bill awaiting action from President Rodrigo Duterte before being signed into law, passed into law upon inaction for 30 days, or vetoed completely or in part.
